An engineering studio,
not an agency.
Fancy Bouw builds custom software for teams that treat their systems as long-lived assets. Below is an overview of how we think about the work, what we care about, and how we run a project.

What Fancy Bouw is.
Fancy Bouw is an independent software engineering studio. We work with a small number of clients at a time on custom applications, cloud platforms, data systems, and modernization of existing software.
We are not a body-shop, not a marketplace, and not a reseller of any specific product. Every engagement is a custom engineering effort, scoped around a real business problem and delivered by a senior team.
Software built to last.
Our mission is to build software that is worth maintaining. Systems that teams can understand, modify, and rely on for years after the initial release — not just for the length of a launch cycle.
Fewer, better systems.
We want to see a smaller number of clearer, better-engineered systems in the world — and fewer accidental architectures. Every project we take on is a step in that direction: consolidating, simplifying, and giving teams a foundation they can build on with confidence.
What we hold to.
- CraftSoftware is written for people to read.
- HonestyRisks and unknowns are named early.
- RestraintComplexity is a cost we account for.
- OwnershipWe stand behind what we ship.
- ContinuityOthers must be able to take over.
- CuriosityWe learn the domain before we design the system.
How we run projects.
We work in short, honest iterations. Each cycle produces running software, a written status, and a decision on what happens next. Scope is renegotiable; deadlines and quality are not.
Client teams are treated as partners. Our engineers join the same repositories, tools, and channels the internal team already uses, and contribute to the same standards.
Tools chosen on merit.
We are not loyal to any single stack. We choose languages, frameworks, and platforms for the specific problem in front of us, weighing hiring realities, ecosystem maturity, operational cost, and long-term maintenance. We are equally at home in TypeScript, Python, Go, and Rust, and across AWS, GCP, and Azure.

Quality is a daily practice.
Automated tests, peer code review, static analysis, dependency monitoring, and structured logging are default parts of every project — not optional add-ons. We treat production issues as first-class work, not interruptions.
Small teams, senior engineers.
Engagements are staffed with a small, senior team that stays with the project from start to handover. Clients talk directly to the engineers building the system, not to a chain of intermediaries.
We support several engagement models: embedded work inside an existing team, dedicated end-to-end delivery, and shorter advisory or audit engagements for teams that primarily need direction.
Building carefully.
Security, privacy, and accessibility are considered from the start of each project rather than added later. We favor designs that minimize data collection, use well-understood cryptographic primitives, and respect the users of the systems we build.
